Purple streak in hair on underside of hair!?

I was just wondering wether or not a purple streak (light or dark) would look good with medium brown hair. It wouldnt be totally visible because it would be on the bottom layer of my hair but my hair stylist said that it would show on the tips of my hair. I am also getting blonde/carmel highlights too. If any of you have pics of what I am explaining please post them!!
