I just put a 1991 engine in my 1997 Geo Metro. Can i also put the ecu from the 1991 in it?

Both cars had the 1.0 liter 3cyl, both have 5spd . The 1991 engine has no spot for a crank sensor, but the 1997 metro has a crank sensor. Now that I have the 1991 engine in the car, can I just swap the ecu over from the 1991 into the 1997 so it doesnt need the crank sensor? What else will I have to do to make it work? Please help, I need the mpg's, I am a poor college student! Thanks guys.
